Andrea E. Kirby, PsyD

Dr. Andrea E. Kirby specializes in working with adults to help you navigate anxiety, obsessions, and eating concerns in order to live a fuller life. She tailors evidence based treatments, such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to fit your unique life. In therapy, Andrea focuses on what really matters to you and your strengths to assist you in improving how you relate to your thoughts, emotions, self, and other people. She enjoys working with adults to incorporate their culture, values, and spiritual beliefs into an active therapy approach; such as equipping you with tools to better respond to emotions, guiding you through exposures to face fears that might hold you back, and teaching ways to further strengthen your relationships.
Education and Experience
Dr. Kirby is a licensed psychologist in Texas and North Carolina and has over a decade of experience providing therapy. Andrea conducted award-winning research on body image and eating behaviors at Vanderbilt University, where she earned a BA and high honors in psychology and specialized in Psychopathology and Clinical Neuroscience. She earned a doctorate of psychology (PsyD) at Wheaton College, researching depression, thought patterns, and parent support.
A published author, she lectured on mental health concerns and grief to undergraduate and graduate students and assisted in teaching courses on CBT and ethics in the field of psychology to doctoral students at Wheaton College. She had the privilege to work with diverse people at hospitals in Chicago, Illinois, and an APA-accredited internship at Momentous Institute in Dallas, Texas. She also completed a postdoctoral fellowship in which she supervised doctoral students on therapy and assessment and spoke publicly on “emotion regulation” and "parent training" at Momentous. She served as a senior psychologist at a group practice in Dallas, TX before launching TherLively and teaching as an adjunct professor in the doctoral psychology program at Wheaton College.
Training and Therapy Approaches
Andrea has trained extensively in CBT, completing courses through the Beck Institute on using CBT to treat anxiety and depression and trainings from the founders of ACT. She trained in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). She utilizes a personalized approach to Enhanced Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT-E) for eating disorders and is trained through the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals (IAEDP).
Dr. Kirby takes a Health-At-Every-Size (HAES) approach to guide you in improving your relationship with your body and an Intuitive Eating approach to helping you enjoy eating. She provides Prolonged Exposure (PE) to target PTSD, and was certified in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT). She’s also trained in Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) and the Comprehensive Behavioral Model (ComB) for managing hair-pulling (Trichotillomania) and skin picking (Excoriation Disorder).

Born and raised in North Carolina, Andrea lived in Nashville and Chicago before making Dallas-Fort Worth her home. She lives—in part—for kitchen dance parties with her kiddo and husband, and cherishes moments of stillness soaking up nature.
